2007

12-Sep-07 - Stratford Tour cancelled.
Unfortunately, the Hornets are having to cancel their entry to the Stratford tour - this is the first time they will miss the tour since first going in 2001. The problem is a lack of player availability. This is due to a large amount of players' league games now starting earlier than in previous years - as such there aren't enough people to make up a team. Hopefully, things will be back to normal for 2008!

05-Aug-07 - Bath Tour round-up.

Bath Festival Runners-Up Trophy

A slight change to this year's format saw the removal of the festival game in favour of a knockout cup & plate competition rather than leagues. Teams played in qualifying pool games on the Saturday for places in the Cup and Plate competitions. Unsurprisingly, the Hornets were undefeated on day one and entered the Cup hoping to improve on last year's Semi-Final placing. It was pretty much business as usual until the Hornets came up against the ultra keen and national league endowed Bath Rangers who, despite their quality, made very hard work of a 2-0 victory! The results from the weekend are below:

  • Mixed Pool: vs. Leo Sayer All-Dayers W2-0 (Aido, Norris)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. BOG W2-1 (Scott, Cat)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Random Factor W2-0 (Singles)
  • Cup Round 1: vs. London Edwardians W4-0 (Norris x3, Cat)
  • Cup QF: vs. West Wilts Warlocks W3-1 (Ross, Norris, OG)
  • Cup SF: vs. Pirates W2-0 (Singles, Norris)
  • Cup Final: vs. Bath Rangers L0-2
So another trophy is secured for the virtual clubhouse as the Hornets enjoy their most successful ever year!

22-Jul-07 - Guildford Tour round-up.

Guildford LadyBoys Tour Super Cup Winners 2007

A slight change to this year's format saw the introduction of more teams and an extra competition. Teams played in qualifying pool games on the Saturday for places in the Super Cup, Cup and Plate competitions. Once again the Hornets were undefeated on day one and entered the Super Cup as favourites to retain the overall trophy. A much tougher Sunday saw the Hornets secure the place as reigning champions for another year after Cave Man Golf failed to win their final match. The results from the weekend are below:

  • Mixed Pool: vs. Spanky & the Monkeys W2-1 (Aido x2)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Rubbish W4-0 (Aido x2, Cat, JoW)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Elf Abuse W4-2 (Aido x4)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Team Liability W2-1 (Aido, Ceilidh)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Purple Nasties W1-0 (Scott)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Otters W2-0 (Gambo, Cat)
  • Super Cup: vs. Tulse Hill & Dulwich Dragons D0-0
  • Super Cup: vs. Oggy Oggy Oggy W2-1 (Cat, MJ, Hogger OG)
  • Super Cup: vs. Cave Man Golf W3-1 (Catx2, Aido)
  • Super Cup: vs. Santa’s S**t List L1-3 (Gambo)
  • Super Cup: vs. Alcoholics Unanimous D1-1 (Aido)
  • Super Cup: vs. Team Liability W2-1 (Ross, Scott)
So the trophy returns to the virtual clubhouse for another year and the Hornets add Guildford 2007 to their every growing collection of tournament successes.

15-Jul-07 - Extra Tour and Joint Team Plans announced
The DRAG-NETS

This year an extra tour is being added to the itinary. This tour is the East Grinstead Saints & Sinners Tour and it takes place during the last bank holiday weekend in August. The entry is usually taken by Tulse Hill & Dulwich Dragons, but for this year it will be run jointly with the Hornets - allowng us to create the DRAGNETS. If you are interested in coming along then please contact us for further details.

01-May-07 - Hornets vs Tulse Hill & Dulwich Dragons.

THD Dragons vs. Anglia Hornets

Recently, as part of Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club's Centenary celebrations the Hornets got involved in a couple of matches. On the Saturday Mark Jones captained a men's invitational side, comprising mainly of Hornets, against a select TH XI. The makeshift Hornets side ran out as 4-1 winners with both Hogger and MJ on the scoresheet.

On the Sunday the Hornets took on the club's mixed side - the Dragons - in a festival match. Many of THD's players are, in fact, members of the Hornets and Mark Jones is actually the captain of both teams. In a very well spririted and intense encounter both team shared the spoils. The final score was 2-2, with both Scott McArdell & Mark Jones getting on the scoresheet.

22-Apr-07 - Guildford Tour 2007 Plans announced
As the touring season starts to get underway, it is time to announce the second tour of the summer. The Hornets are currently recruiting for players to defend the trophy they won at the Guildford LadyBoys Tour in 2006. The tour is camping and based on two astroturf pitches - one sand & one water. A nice smallish tour with approx 16 teams - all very good natured and up for competitive but festival hockey! If you are interested in coming along then please contact us for further details.

12-Apr-07 - Hornets vs Tulse Hill & Dulwich Dragons.
As part of Tulse Hill & Dulwich Hockey Club's Centenary celebrations the Hornets have agreed to play a festival mixed match against their mixed side - the Dragons. Many club players are members of both teams so it should be quite a robust encounter. The match is to take place at Dulwich College on Sunday 29-Apr at 1230 (changed to 1100)... for more information about the game please contact MJ for further details.

10-Apr-07 - Defence of Guildford Trophy Planned.
Having taken Canterbury by storm - thoughts now turn to the Guildford Tour. Last year the Hornets won the Tournament and walked away virtually undefeated, so plans are now being made to repeat this remarkable feat! Some key players will be missing but the strength and depth in the Hornets squad mean that expectations are still high. For more details about the tour please contact MJ for further details.

09-Apr-07 - Hornets storm Canterbury and claim prize!

Hornets win Team of the Festival at Canterbury

Another Easter tour and the successes just keep on coming. Having competed with a mixed team in both the Mixed competition and the Ladies Cup (they were short of Womens' teams) the final standings saw the Hornets walk away as runners-up for the Mixed Plate and 4th place for the Ladies Cup. Such was the Hornets impact that the Team of the Festival award came home to the virtual trophy cabinet! The results from the weekend are below:
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Brighton Uni W3-1 (Hogger, Cat, Ellie)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. GNT W5-2 (Nozza x2, Will x2, Cat)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. TMTP W7-3 (Ellie x2, Nozza x2, Will x2, Johnny)
  • Mixed Pool: vs. Confessors D0-0
  • Mixed Final: vs. Team Bath Buccs L0-1
  • Ladies Cup: vs. Brighton Bangers W5-2 (Ellie x3, Cat, Hannah)
  • Ladies Cup: vs. Ladies of Wessex W5-0 (Ellie x2, Cat x2, Tilley)
  • Ladies Cup: vs. Grinders W4-3 (Cat x2, Ellie, Hannah)
  • 3rd/4th Play-Off: vs. Top Dogs L0-2
The Mixed Plate final saw the Hornets camped in the Bath students' half and a host of chances went begging. Despite the complete dominance it was beyond the Hornets to get the elusive goals needed. Still a qualified success for 2007 and it is only the first tour this year.

03-Jan-07 - Canterbury Easter 2007 confirmed.
Canterbury Hockey ClubThe Easter Tour 2007 has been confirmed and instead of returning to the Channel Islands, the team is off to Canterbury in Kent. The main reason for not returning to Guernsey was the cost to travel out there and the extra effort needed to be organised so far in advance. So it's back the traditional camping tour! For more details about the tour please contact MJ for further details.
